The details are filled in for you and the two dates are set. That is the whole job; there is nothing else to type.

A month out, and a week out
You are reminded a month before each date, when there is still time to book, and again a week before, when there is still time to panic usefully. Renewals have their own notification switch, so you can have these without anything else. The nearest date across MOT and tax sits in the “Needs you” list on Today until it is dealt with.
On the family calendar, beside everything else
The MOT and the tax appear on the family calendar as their own kind of entry, in the colour of whoever looks after the car, next to the dentist and the school run. Anyone in the house can see it is coming, and the person who books it can put the appointment right beside it.

More than one car, and the rest of the paperwork
Every car in the house has its own entry. When one goes, retire it rather than delete it, so its history stays visible. The insurance schedule and the service record live in Files beside it, with an expiry date on each; photograph the renewal letter and the date is read off it for you.
What is sent, and where
The registration, and nothing else. The DVSA and DVLA services publish MOT and tax status against a number plate; Kinmeadow sends the plate, stores what comes back, and tells them nothing about you. Cars, MOT and road tax reminders are part of Pro.

Where does the MOT date come from?
From the DVSA’s MOT history service, which publishes the result and expiry of every MOT test against a registration. Kinmeadow looks it up so you do not have to, and stores the due date so it can remind you.
And the road tax?
From the DVLA’s vehicle enquiry service, which publishes tax status and the date it runs out. Both lookups use the registration and nothing else.
When am I reminded?
A month before and a week before, for the MOT and the road tax. The nearest date also sits in the “Needs you” list on Today until it is dealt with, and the morning briefing mentions it as it gets close.
Does it book the MOT for me?
No. It makes sure you know in time, and the garage is yours to choose. Put the appointment on the calendar and it sits right beside the due date.
Can I add more than one car?
Yes, as many as the house has. Each has its own lookup and its own reminders, and the nearest date across all of them is the one on Today.
What about a new car, or one that is sold?
Add the new one by its plate and the dates come back the same way. Retire the old one rather than deleting it, so its record stays for reference without cluttering the calendar.
